An evening of orchestral drama, lyrical cello and a sweeping Tchaikovsky finale.
The plan
Anna Rakitina conducts the North Carolina Symphony, with Johannes Moser joining as cello soloist. Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides opens a program that also includes Elgar’s Cello Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. The contrast between an intimate solo voice and a full orchestral finale gives the evening its shape.
Make the most of it
Arrive for the free 30-minute Concert Insights session at 7pm, ahead of the 8pm performance. It is a helpful introduction if these pieces are unfamiliar: listen for the themes discussed, then hear how they return during the concert.
